Prey Lang Community of Kampong Thom Patrols the Forest

On August 13, 2012 is the first day of patrolling of Prey Lang community people in Sandan district, Kampong Thom province. There are about 70 people coming from 6 villages are gathered together in Sre Veal village, Dang Kambet district, in the forest. The gathering started at 7:30am—and the people planned to leave at 8:00am.

 

In this patrol, the patrolmen use their motors for travelling into the forest. The main objective of first day is to stop the illegal logging and land occupying of the criminals. At this beginning, there has not significance crimes act of the criminals relating to the deforestation and land occupying. But, until around 11:00am, the patrolmen of Prey Lang community found about 30-40 hectares of new land occupying from the criminals which is located in Prek Ho area of the Prey Lang forest.

 

Then, they continued traveling and invading to other locations in the forest in order to find places of the illegal acts. However, they could not encounter the illegalities taking place or remaining in the areas of the Prey Lang. Finally, they got sleeping as the first night in the mission of patrolling the Prey Lang forest.
