Prey Lang Activist Expressing His Concern over the Personal Security after Receiving Threats

A 42 year old man Saom Than, Prey Lang activist and Thmea commune council member, resides at Thmea village, Thmea commune, Chey Saen districit, Preah Vihear province said on Sunday 18 November that a businessman Sriang Meng, also the owner of an illegal factory, living in the same village threatened and gave him death threats after the businessman contacted forest community people to cut 1,000 meter cubes of woods to sell for the businessman, but he stopped them from going to log.
Saom Than says, “The community people listen to me, so they do not go to log and the factory owner is angry with me; they come here to threaten or shoot me to death and pay a compensation of $3,000.00”
Saom Than continued saying that the illegal factory operator used to give me death threat one time already when the private company was clearing the land to construct road, but the factory owner appeared and prevented the construction when reaching in front of his house. Having seen this, Saom Than intervened again.
