Following a large-scale PLCN patrol at the end of November, authorities responded to the group’s reports of illegal logging activity. On December 6 and 7, more than twenty representatives of provincial authorities, along with commune chiefs from Boeung Char, Chroy Banteay and Vatanak, found and confiscated three cartloads of illegally felled timber from loggers inside Prey Lang’s protected Trapeang Tea and Phnom Krahorm areas. Thirty chainsaws were included in the haul.
Also in response to PLCN’s November patrol, on 12 December three provincial forestry administration representatives, along with a police officer, two commune councilors and a village chief, visited Domrei Phong to look for evidence of illegal logging and document the number of migrant families living in the area. The group discovered an estimated 100 hectares of illegally cleared land and found that 50 migrant families were living there illegally.
