On November 19, seven PLCN members and representatives (all men) patrolled forest west of Chomsvay and Sam Oang villages, on the border Prey Lang’s protected area. Patrollers found two chainsaws and questioned one of seven loggers, who said that the group had received approval from the Forestry Administration and other authorities to conduct logging. The officials who provided permission were not identified.
On November 21, a PLCN member reported to the GNA team that forest crimes dramatically increased in seven locations around Sandan district. The Prey Lang resource mapping team also witnessed four armed police and military officers escort tractors transporting illegally logged timber to a factory in Rumchek village, Sochet commune.
