CPN/Prey Lang Activists Share Concerns to EU Delegation

October 26, 2012 | Posted in: News

CPN organized 27 Kampong Thom affiliated community activists, including Prey Lang Community Network members, to meet with an EU delegation led by EU Ambassador Jean-François Cautain on October 22. The delegation was exploring environmental trends, natural resource management issues, and grassroots networking and related rights concerns. CPN and Prey Lang members raised many issues such as deforestation in their region. The EU ambassador said he would find some support to communities and report to relevant institutions. [Note: In a somewhat related development, the human rights situation in Cambodia will be debated in the European Parliament tomorrow, Oct. 26 between 10:30-11:30 (15.30 – 16.30 in Cambodia). Agenda and motions for resolutions can be found on http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sed/motions.do. A joint motion for a resolution (having the apparent support of 6 parties) that, among other things, calls for temporary suspension of EBA import preferences, is here. The session is expected to be live-streamed via http://www.europarl.europa.eu/sed/video.do. ]
